This is a personal reflection from someone in the medical community who has contracted HIV, allowing a unique perspective. He also received a diagnosis of Bipolar Type II after having contracted HIV, so he has experienced both the stigma of HIV, as well as the stigma of mental dysfunction. The author details how both diagnoses impacted his life and his relationships, and talks about how he combats both stigmas by speaking publicly and openly about his experiences to others on behalf of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and poor mental health.
