Mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis (MCGN)—which is synonymous with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis—is diagnosed when renal biopsy reveals glomeruli with a characteristic lobular appearance. Immunohistology and electron microscopy allow further subdivision into three patterns, types I, II (also called dense deposit disease), and III.
