A 68-year-old woman awoke from sleep but had difficulty getting out of bed as she kept falling back onto her left side. When she got up she had some weakness of her left arm, hand, and foot. Her husband also noticed a left-sided facial droop and slurred speech. Her symptoms fluctuated over the course of the day before improving. Her past medical history included hypertension for which she was taking amlodipine.
