Non-pharmacological management of hypertension

The management of hypertension would be incomplete without lifestyle modifications. These changes help in lowering overall cardiovascular risk along with control of blood pressure. Regular exercise with the maintenance of optimal body weight along with a healthy diet complement pharmacologic treatment. Low-salt diet, along with consumption of alcohol in moderation, also helps keep the blood pressure under control. In most cases, life style modification on its own is not sufficient to control hypertension and pharmacological treatment must be instituted as well.
