British and European guidelines have classified systolic blood pressure of 130139mmHg as high normal (the American guidelines call this prehypertension) and do not recommend pharmacological treatment but strict lifestyle modification for this group. Different classes of antihypertensive agents are recommended depending on comorbidities. Treatment is holistic and should encompass cardiovascular risk management in addition to blood pressure management.
