Kyphosis may be a focal deformity limited to a few spinal segments or a more global problem involving the thoraco-lumbar spine

The causes are myriad and reflect all the disease processes that affect bone

As well as producing pain from disturbed sagittal balance, neurological complications can occur infrequently

Conservative treatment in established kyphotic deformity has a limited role

The aims of surgery are to correct the deformity, restore sagittal alignment and decompress the neural elements as required.
