A 24-year-old female classroom assistant, who had immigrated to the UK from Pakistan 10 years previously, presented with a persistent productive cough, with yellow sputum, of 2 months’ duration. She was 33 weeks pregnant. Auramine staining of three sputum samples revealed moderate numbers of acid fast bacilli.
