Preview

A 60-year-old warehouse worker presented for routine preoperative assessment prior to elective right inguinal hernia repair. There was no past medical history of note but the report of a chest radiograph (Fig. 12.1) performed 2 weeks earlier suggested that further investigation was required. Although he had no cardiorespiratory symptoms he was referred to the admitting medical team. Trans-thoracic echocardiography was performed (Fig.12.2) and this led the medical team to organize a contrast-enhanced CT scan of the chest (Fig. 12.3).
