• Percutaneous renal mass biopsy can aid in establishing a diagnosis, thus reducing the likelihood of unnecessary treatment for benign disease • Small renal tumours can be successfully treated by image-guided ablation techniques, such as radio- frequency ablation and cryotherapy. Early follow-up data is promising • Preoperative embolization can reduce the risk of complications from nephrectomy for renal cancer • Embolization is also of benefit in the palliation of renal cancer and its metastases.
