• Heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HeFH) affects 1 in 500 of the population. • Levels of total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) are approximately twice normal. • Inheritance is autosomal dominant. • In most families, the disorder is highly atherogenic. • Cascade screening from known affected individuals is strongly recommended. • Patients should be referred to a Lipid Clinic.
