The second chapter sets the scene for Laing’s intellectual journey by examining how he planned his project to become an eminent thinker. It looks at his notebooks and examines his personal library to reveal what books he was reading. This chapter also looks at Laing’s early intellectual productions from his talk as a second year medical student, through his undergraduate essays, to his first publications in medical journals. Following this, we look at Laing’s engagement with theoretical and cultural matters.
