The quality of caring relationships between staff and residents living in care homes is a key factor in promoting health and well-being. How this is achieved is a function of leadership at many levels within the care home. The VIPS framework of person-centred care is provided as a means of helping care homes to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses in relation to having a strong set of systems in place to ensure health and well-being are maximized for residents. Examples are provided from a study of 100 care homes that looked at the well-being of residents with dementia (CSCI, 2008).
