A 72-year-old man is referred by his GP. He is normally healthy with a 6-month progressive deterioration in mobility. He reports that his legs are strong and have normal sensation, but when he walks they feel heavy and become numb. He slows down after walking 300m and has to sit before continuing. He has no sphincter disturbance and no back pain.
