We searched systematically for the existence of histamine antagonists, thinking that this study would provide a new way to address more points in the physiology of this hormone, and would be likely to have therapeutic applications. We report the first results obtained with many substances containing a phenolic ether function. We saw, indeed, that there are many products in this series which can protect guinea pigs from toxic doses of histamine.
