Hypogonadism is a common disorder causing adverse health effects. Treatment of hypogonadism is simple and straightforward. Replacement doses of testosterone normalize serum levels and physiological function. Treatment options include transdermal, axillary, buccal, oral, and intramuscular depot systems. Side effects of therapy are rare and risks are limited. Safety monitoring includes prostate and haematocrit assessment after 3 to 6 months and once yearly thereafter.
