Stem cells in the subventricular zone of the walls of the lateral ventricles lifelong generate several lineages of new interneurons in the olfactory bulb. The progenitor cells have to migrate a long distance from the ventricle through the rostral migratory stream to the olfactory bulb. The chapter describes the details of this process.
