Rapid and successive advances in MR hardware and sequence development across the last decade have led to MRI becoming a robust modality for imaging cardiac pathology. This chapter discusses how cardiac MR (CMR) has now become the first step in the diagnosis of many disease processes of the heart. Also discussed are its use as an effective tool for the evaluation of both acquired and congenital heart disease provides the ability to evaluate abnormalities of both anatomy and physiology in one setting.
