Childhood immunizations, infectious diseases in children, bone and joint infections in children, infections of the fetus and newborn, and clinical approaches are reviewed. The immunization section covers vaccines routinely given in childhood, such as polio vaccine, MMR, DTaP, HPV, and rotavirus. Infectious diseases in children discussed in this chapter include acute otitis media, croup, urinary tract infections, measles, and chickenpox, among others. Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis are covered under bone and joint infections. The section on infections of the fetus and newborn includes a review of the following infections, among others: chickenpox, hepatitis B and C, AIDS, parvovirus, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex, and syphilis.
