Mechanical complications of acute myocardial infarction include cardiogenic shock, failed reperfusion, infarct extension and expansion, true and false ventricular aneurysms, left ventricular outflow tract obstructions, myocardial rupture, acute mitral regurgitation, pericardial effusion and pericarditis, postinfarction syndrome, and left ventricular mural thrombus.
