The territory occupied by the Israelites formed a land-bridge through which routes from Africa and Arabia to Mesopotamia and Asia Minor (and vice versa) must have passed, as well as its consequent strategic and commercial significance is known. Thus, merchandise carried over land must have passed through this narrow coastal strip. This chapter describes these ancient trade routes with accompanying maps and photographs.
