Quick Reference

The German examination equivalent to the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level. It is often held up by educators in the United Kingdom as a model to be emulated as it offers the academic rigour necessary for a university entrance qualification as well as the breadth required to prepare school‐leavers for employment. In this sense it can be cited as an example of how the academic–vocational divide may be successfully bridged. See also baccalauréat.
