Quick Reference

A priest in the army of King David (2 Sam. 20: 25), who later supported Adonijah's unsuccessful bid for the throne against Solomon. The king (Solomon) banished Abiathar to his estate at Anathoth (1 Kgs. 2: 26–7). Jeremiah (Jer. 1: 1) may have been a descendant. Mark 2: 26 mistakenly regards Abiathar as already a priest in the time of David's flight from Saul (1 Sam. 21: 1–6) instead of his father Ahimelech.
