Access Fund

A source of financial support for students aged 16 or over in full‐time education whose studies involve costs (for example, for specialist equipment) which they are not able to meet; or who face leaving their studies for reasons of financial hardship; or who have additional costs incurred by a disability or childcare responsibilities. The Access Fund is intended to facilitate wider access to further education and higher education. It is financed by central government and is administered through local authorities for claimants in schools, and through universities and colleges for disbursement to their own eligible students. The Access Fund cannot normally be used simply for the purpose of paying tuition fees.
