An alkaloid from the dried roots of the herbaceous plant Aconitum napellus used in the homeopathic treatment of dental fear or acute anxiety. It was formerly used as a tincture for toothache. Its use is controversial in view of its low safety margin and evidence of its being a cardiotoxin.
