Overview

act of God

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A natural event that is not caused by any human action and cannot be predicted. It is untrue (as is sometimes thought) that insurance policies covering homes and businesses exclude acts of God. In fact, both cover such natural events as storms, lightning, and floods. However, some contracts exclude liability for damage arising from acts of God (see force majeure.)
