Acrodermatitis enteropathica is an inherited (autosomal recessive) inability to absorb sufficient zinc, which causes patchy sparse hair; patches of dry scaly eczematous skin on the hands, feet, scalp, and around the mouth and anogenital region; and chronic diarrhoea.
