New York poet, whose books, Those Not Elect (1925), High Falcon (1929), This Measure (1933), and Poems (1954), have been described as works of a modern metaphysical poet because of their sensitivity, austere intensity, and emphasis on intellect. She taught English at New York University, Bennington College, and Columbia University. In 1969 and the '70s she received several major awards and grants for her poetic achievements.
