A Syriac writing which describes how King Abgar was brought into contact with Christ and Addai was sent from Edessa to convert him. In its present form it dates from the early 5th cent. and incorporates the more recent legend of the Invention of the Cross by Protonice, described as the wife of the future Emp. Claudius (d. ad 54).
