Quick Reference

Adolescence, a time of physical growth, physiological change, psychological and psychosexual development, is a period of heightened vulnerability to disease and injury that justifies deploying health services to enhance health and minimize adverse outcomes. However, many adolescents who perceive themselves to be healthy rarely or never use health care services unless they are injured or ill, so physicians who see them at such times are advised to use the opportunity to screen for high-risk conditions and to counsel about healthy behavior.
