Quick Reference

(Agni, Baoule/Côte d'Ivoire)

The high god, Adoudoua, bred Nyame, god of the skies and symbol of virility, and Assie, the earth goddess and symbol of fertility. He then withdrew.

The human soul, immortal and indestructible, shapes a person's life, determining his behavior. When a man dies, his soul goes to the kingdom of the dead, to reside with the ancestors, with the gods in the heavens. Death is a pleasurable state. If a person does not obey the rules laid down by his soul, there are times when, after death, the soul does not move to the kingdom of the dead but remains on the earth, there to wander, seeking another human body that might enable it to discover the purity that escaped it in its previous life.
