A satellite that tested new technology for communications satellites. Developed and operated by NASA's Glenn Research Center, it was launched in September 1993 and conducted 103 experiments in 74 000 hours before ending its work in May 2000. ACTS utilized spot-beam antennae and on-board switching and processing systems for the tests.
