aerobic power

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

The maximum amount of energy that can be produced from the aerobic energy system per unit time (i.e. the rate of ATP production by aerobic metabolism). Aerobic power depends on the ability of tissues to use oxygen to breakdown metabolic fuels and the combined abilities of various systems (pulmonary, cardiac, vascular, and cellular) to transport oxygen from the air to mitochondria. Aerobic power is usually measured in terms of oxygen consumption. See maximal oxygen uptake.
