An order of fungi that typically form fleshy fruit bodies which are typically mushroom-shaped and bear gills. There are many families; the order includes many of the ‘mushrooms’ and ‘toadstools’. Most members of the order are saprotrophic, growing on wood, soil, dung, etc. They are important agents of decay.
