Quick Reference

In Sāṃkhya philosophy, the second evolute of prakṛti (primal matter); it is the source of the sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ (so sometimes called the ego), and a major barrier to liberation for the spiritual self (puruṣa), which, out of ignorance, identifies with it, even though it belongs to an entirely different ontological category.
