Quick Reference

Son of Oswiu, was a sub-king from 655 when Oethelwald (of Deira) was deposed. He married Penda's daughter Cyneburh, helped to persuade his brother-in-law Peada to become a Christian, and was a patron of Wilfrid and the Roman religious party. In 664, though, he took up arms against his father, was deposed, and perhaps killed.
