(1792–1878), Scottish poet whose first work, A Pilgrimage to the Land of Burns (1822), a narrative interspersed with songs and ballads, was published just before he came to the U.S. (1822). There he was for a time a member of the New Harmony colony, and later published a further collection of dialect poems, Scottish Songs, Ballads, and Poems (1855).
