Quick Reference

Son of Eadwulf, succeeded as ruler of northern Bernicia in 913. He found difficulty in sustaining his position against the Vikings of York, and was twice forced by Ragnall I to take refuge with the Picts, first in 914, again 918–20. But his father Eadwulf had been under the protection of Alfred of Wessex, and Aldred submitted to Edward the Elder in 923, and at Eamont Bridge in Cumbria to Athelstan in 927. His date of death is not known.
