(b. London, 5 April 1894; d. Midhurst, Sussex, 13 Nov. 1982) Comedian and theatrical agent. A solo variety artist and manager to the music hall artist Florrie Forde prior to his stage and film partnership with Bud Flanagan from 1924 to 1944. For the second half of this period, the pair were part of the Crazy Gang, with whom Allen introduced the songs ‘Underneath the Arches’ and ‘Run, Rabbit, Run’. He retired from the stage in 1946 due to ill health, but returned in 1981 for a musical celebration of the Crazy Gang entitled Underneath the Arches (Chichester).
