US scientist-astronaut. He was a mission specialist on Columbia in November 1982, the first space shuttle flight to carry a four-person crew, and again on Discovery in November 1984, when the crew successfully performed the first space salvage, retrieving two communications satellites. He was selected as a scientist-astronaut in 1967, logging 314 hours in space before leaving NASA in 1985.
