A disturbance of body schema in which tactile stimulation on one side of the body is perceived on the other, usually as a result of a lesion in the cerebral cortex, brainstem, or spinal cord. Also spelt allesthesia. Also called allochiria. [From Greek allos other + aisthesis sensation, from aisthanesthai to feel + -ia indicating a condition or quality]
