(Strauss: Die ägyptische Helena). Bar. A desert chieftain, father of Da‐ud. Summoned by the sorceress Aithra to her palace, they both fall in love with the beautiful Helen of Troy. Altair invites her husband Menelaus to join them on a hunt, in the course of which he kills Altair's son. When they return to the palace, Altair attempts to prevent the reunion of Menelaus and Helen, but Aithra interferes and stops him. Created (1928) by Friedrich Plaschke.
