English Puritan. Ordained priest before 1627, he held various posts. In 1641 he adopted Presbyterianism. He served on the committee for the ejection of ‘scandalous, ignorant and insufficient ministers’ in Lancashire and was himself ejected in 1662. After an illness he determined to write a devotional description of what the Lord had done for his soul: Looking unto Jesus (1658).
