Eliot Feld's New York-based company, originally known as the American Ballet Players. It gave its first performance on 27 Jun. 1969 at the 12th Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto with a programme of three Feld ballets and a work by Herbert Ross. Its first New York season opened 21 Oct. 1969 but financial difficulties led to the company's closure in 1971. Feld and some of his dancers subsequently joined American Ballet Theatre, and in 1974 Feld founded a second company, the Eliot Feld Ballet.
