American National Standards Institute, an organization, founded in 1918, that establishes US industrial standards. It accredits organizations from the public and private sector to write these standards following the rules established by ANSI, and provides a forum and a framework within which the organisations cooperate to develop American National Standards. It is the US representative to ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and to IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
