A stock exchange in New York, on which second-tier securities are traded. Listing requirements on AMEX are less stringent than on the New York Stock Exchange. AMEX pioneered touch-screen technology and, in linking with the Toronto Stock Exchange in 1985, established the first international link between primary equity markets. AMEX has developed a market in options and futures. AMEX is now a member of the NASDAQ group.
