ammonium salts

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A group of salts derived from ammonia. They are used as mild diuretic drugs and stimulants. In the past, they have been used to revive an unconscious or dazed semi-conscious athlete, but it is generally agreed that this practice should stop and that ammonium salts should play no role in the treatment of head-injured athletes. Instead, controlled verbal arousal should be used with precautions taken in case of spinal injury until the athlete becomes sufficiently coherent to give a personal assessment of injuries.
