A form of asbestos, found mainly in South Africa, with a high iron content and also containing aluminum and magnesium silicates. It is considered to be a particularly hazardous form of asbestos. Exposure to amosite asbestos is associated with high risks of asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
