A heparin-binding growth factor (Schwannoma-derived growth factor, 84 aa) containing an EGF-like domain. Binds to the EGF receptor, though with lower affinity than EGF, stimulates proliferation of human fibroblasts, and inhibits growth of some, but not all, human tumour cells. Expression is increased in psoriatic epidermis. See heparin-binding epidermal growth factor.
