Fr. composer and conductor. Strongly influenced by Boulez and for 3 years attended Darmstadt summer courses. Succeeded Boulez as cond. of Domaine Musical, Paris, 1967–73. Founder and cond. French Radio New PO 1976–81. Dir., Lyons Cons. from 1984. His comps. have moved from strict serialism to a more flexible use of the system and his later works, some employing tape, are of considerable poetic refinement. Works incl.:
