A volatile liquid producing fumes that dilate coronary arteries, thus enhancing blood flow to the heart muscle. It is used to relieve the ischemic pain (angina pectoris) produced by myocardial ischemia. It has been used as an adjuvant sexual stimulant, mainly by homosexual men, although its efficacy for this purpose is dubious, and there may be health risks.
